WHY TRANSYLVANIAN

WHAT SETS TRANSYLVANIAN BEEF APART FROM OTHER GLOBAL SUPPLIERS?

Due to superior genetics, a healthy environment and rearing conditions, Angus cattle from Transylvania are highly sought after due to the special quality of their beef. Achieving this level of quality can be done by maximizing genetic potential. Over the entire lifespan of the cattle, from birth to slaughter, the most important aspect by far is feeding them in a way that is as healthy and natural as possible. So, the grasslands these cattle spend their lives on are vital for premium beef quality.

What sets Transylvanian beef apart from beef coming from other parts of the world?

Romania has some of the most extensive farming land areas and high natural value farmland (HNVF). This farmland occupies about 30% of agricultural land in Romania, 5 million hectares respectively, and its biodiversity is a rare thing in other countries. Farmland with high natural value is situated in Transylvania, Maramureș, the Carpathian hillside, where agriculture is the main economic activity traditionally, and a key factor in nature conservation.

This land is characterised by the presence of natural and semi-natural vegetation (pastures, grasslands) that are very rich în various types of plants and are integrated in an extensive, uninterrupted and mozaicked landscape, including natural elements (like the edges of fields, hedges, rocky forrested areas, or shrubs and rivers), farmed land and traditional orchards.

Traditional agricultural practices have contributed to the maintenance of these areas, offering a number of public benefits, such as landscapes, clean air and water, high-quality food, a high living standard, opportunities for leisure activities, carbon storage or flood control.

These are beneficial for society at large, not just to the local communities. Thus, HNV areas deserve to receive support not only for the conservation of natural diversity, but for ensuring environmental balance as well. The ability to adapt to climate change is critical for agricultural productivity as a means of economic existence for many agricultural communities and, needless to say, for obtaining healthy, nutritious produce.
